LESBIRU.COM, the first comprehensive national service for Russian-speaking lesbians, launched in August, 2001. It offers sharp graphics, original content and smart articles. The most special thing about it is that this site is created by lesbians on a strictly voluntary basis.

In contrast to other sites LESBIRU.COM, is geared to the social and leisure interest of a vast community of lesbians, it has no pornographic images and offers relevant content including indepth, timely news (both Russian and international), events, personals, culture (music, cinema, literature, photography, life-style), society, health, family, money and careers, coming out, entertainment, message boards, humor, etc.
Visitors can subscribe to e-mail updates and express their opinions in regularly held polls.

LESBIRU.COM has been created by women only. Founders and editors of the site, VolgaVolga and Vdova, who manage the project by their own funding and dedication, have already proved themselves to be successful web-designers and authors of lesbian Internet projects as well as provocative thinkers and activists in modern lesbian movement. That is why LESBIRU.COM is a place to find rich information, unexpected topics and sincere talk to visitors.

As it is impossible to find lesbian organizations and information centers in Russia (in such a vast country there is not even a paper or a magazine for lesbians), LESBIRU.COM is dedicated to be the first national independent mass media for lesbians in Russia and Russian-speaking lesbians abroad.

LESBIRU.COM has deliberately refused to show erotic illustrations and photo-galleries as its editors want to make sure that people come to the site not because of "hot" issues but because they are interested in information.
